Western Union Launches Mobile App for Filipinos to Boost Remittance Access

Western Union has officially launched its new mobile application in the Philippines, aiming to make remittance transactions faster and more convenient for Filipino users. The launch event in Makati City highlighted the country's strong remittance market and tech-savvy mobile users as key factors driving the app’s early success.
Gregory Laurent, Western Union vice president for the Philippines, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands, said the company saw “strong traction” just two weeks after the app’s soft launch. He added that the Philippines was the first market to feature the app’s full send-and-receive functionality, designed specifically for Filipino clients and their families.
The app is expected to serve millions of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families. According to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) data, remittances reached a record USD38 billion in 2024, keeping the Philippines among the top four countries worldwide in remittance inflows. “For many in the country, remittances represent opportunity and hope,” Laurent said.
Ricardo Alair, Western Union director for the Philippines, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and Palau, said the app’s rollout was carefully planned to ensure system security and fraud prevention. He added that while the single transaction limit is PHP820,000, it may vary depending on partner banks.
With this digital advancement, Western Union aims to strengthen its position in the Philippine market, offering faster and safer financial solutions to customers. For Filipinos interested in exploring modern online platforms that combine convenience and innovation, this trusted digital service hub offers a secure experience tailored to the country’s growing tech landscape.
